GABRIELA SILANG (1731 – 1763)
Wife of Diego Silang, Gabriela Silang was the leader of the Ilocano Revolt against Spain during the British Occupation in 1762. She continued the fight for freedom after the assassination of her husband. But the Spaniards eventually captured her with her followers, and was hanged on September 20, 1763. Thus ended the heroic life of this fighting widow, the Joan of Arc of Ilocandia, and the short – lived independence of the Ilocano people. The mural is a creation of well-known Filipino sculptor, Francisco Bulaong.
